There was a time in my life when I was 100% in the “rat race.” It’s not something I’m proud of, but it does give me a very good perspective and a taste of what it’s like: Getting up every day at an hour that felt way too early, commuting more than an hour to a job that was marginally rewarding, struggling through a tedious day, stopping at the grocery store (after a long, traffic-riddled commute) to shop before coming home to an empty house, making dinner, cleaning the kitchen, watching whatever terrible show was on TV that night, then going to sleep, all so that I could do it all over again the very next day. This went on for quite a while before I realized there must be something more. I soon found out that the “more” I was searching for was my own inner guidance, and in order for it to come through loud and clear I would need to stop what I was doing, try out some new things, and really listen to what my inner guidance was telling me.
Interestingly enough, the first step I took was to stop watching so much TV. (I find it interesting, because TV is so hypnotic, and hypnosis was one of the first major steps I took toward finding what I was looking for.) I realized that if I wanted to change my life, I would have to start somewhere, so I turned off the TV and started reading books. That lead to looking in the paper for fun and interesting events that I could attend, and that’s where I found out about a weekend gathering centered around the holistic community. This event attracted the best in holistic practitioners, philosophers, and artists. It was a huge step for me!
I had already been reading about hypnosis, and I had even heard a hypnosis teacher named Marilyn Gordon on the radio a few times who had founded a school in my own home town. She had the most beautiful voice and her message was always so inviting and soothing. Still, I just listened but did not act. At the gathering, however, I found a practitioner who was offering hypnosis sessions, so I signed up. I was now, finally, going to experience hypnosis for myself.
On the day of my first appointment, I showed up early and eager! I really didn’t know what to expect. Even though I’d heard about hypnosis and had read a little about it, it’s a very different thing to actually experience it. Sitting in the chair now, taking a deep and relaxing inhalation, my body began to relax and release. All the tension just melted away and a new level of awareness came over me. It was like I was experiencing a whole new way of seeing my life, but I knew it had always been there with me. Nothing had changed, and everything had changed.
It’s as if my life came clearer into focus. I saved up some money and quit my job. I took more classes in what truly interested me, and the first one I signed up for was hypnosis training! I called Marilyn Gordon and signed up at The Hypnotherapy Center in Oakland, CA, and I became a certified hypnotherapist myself. It was the most powerful method of inner transformation I had ever experienced! It helped me to create the life I have now-a life that I love and cherish; a life that is fulfilling and fun. The “rat race” was long behind me.
Hypnosis is a huge part of my life because it is so powerful and nurturing. I use it to connect to my inner self, as it always brings stillness and clarity. I also use it to help others find their own inner self and clarity. To me, there is nothing more exhilarating than helping someone else discover how beautiful and powerful they truly are.
